Monk Space is the newest addition to the mid-Wilshire/Koreatown gallery scene. Housed in a 1930s warehouse, the gallery has been drawing crowds for weekend art events and unannounced comedy showcases. The gallery is quietly hidden behind a 98 cent store near the corner of 2nd and Western. You enter through an arched, red-carpeted alley into a cavernous, raw, brick warehouse which joins an outdoor patio and adjacent white-walled studio. This former prohibition-era speakeasy had more recently been seen as backdrop for countless music video productions.
