The Healthy Air Walk is a funraising event that brings together people who want to raise funds for programs that reduce air pollution and prevent lung disease.

The American Lung Association’s premier Healthy Air Walk event has sparked the interest of many local corporations, organizations, and individuals throughout Orange County and California.

You and/or your company can share in the visibility, goodwill, and excitement of the event by sponsoring the American Lung Association’s 2008 Healthy Air Walk.

What is the Healthy Air Walk?

• The American Lung Association of California’s Healthy Air Walk brings together people who want to raise funds for programs that reduce air pollution and prevent lung disease.

• If you are concerned about breathing healthy air, this fundraiser is for you.

• Getting involved is easy. Register online today at www.healthyairwalk.org or call contact Patty Simon at 714 835-5864 or psimon@alac.org.

Why Support the Healthy Air Walk?

• Californians breathe some of the unhealthiest air in the nation and the American Lung Association of California’s Healthy Air Walk gives you the power to change that by raising funds for programs that reduce air pollution.

• Healthy air is important to just about everyone. We all need it to breathe, live and thrive.

• For people who already have trouble breathing, like those with lung diseases such as asthma or COPD, healthy air is even more critical.

• In California, ozone (smog) and particle pollution (soot) cause 6,100 hospital admissions for respiratory diseases; 1,500 hospital admissions for cardiovascular disease; and 210,000 cases of asthma and lower-respiratory symptoms.

• An estimated 8,800 premature deaths each year in California are linked to particle pollution.

• Ozone, also called smog, can damage the airways, causing coughing and shortness of breath, even in healthy people.

• Air pollution harms children’s lungs for life. Exposure to high levels of pollution actually causes delays in lung development in children and reduced lung function.

• Studies show increased levels of ozone may actually cause asthma in otherwise healthy children.

• An estimated 4.7 million school days are lost each year in California due to ailments caused by air pollution.

• Air pollution is costly both in lives and dollars, causing an estimated $1.6 billion in associated hospital and medical expenses as well as 1.4 million lost workdays each year in California.

Raising Funds for Healthy Air is Easy

• You will probably find your friends, family and coworkers are ready to join the movement to improve the air and help our environment.

• Start your own team. You will have a much greater impact by recruiting others with similar interests and concerns to raise funds for healthy air. And it’s more fun to walk with family, friends and coworkers!

• By bringing a team together to do something about healthy air, you can stand up for those who need it the most – people with lung disease.

• Raising funds for healthy air is easy and the American Lung Association of California can help you do it. The association provides the support you need and cheers you on every step of the way.
